Lesson One
Today we have Lesson One on the subject of Why One Should Be Careful At All Times When Translating Media: Cultural Context.

Speaks for itself. Literally. Oh-ho-ho. Saw the panel yesterday and honestly couldn't help myself.

...sadly, if you haven't seen "The Princess Bride," (a) you have been deprived of a truly wonderful cinematic experience; and (b) this makes no sense. XD

...I have homework to do for the class that's in two hours, and jenwryn's utterly amazing latest fic just chased my writing brain away. Not that it was really here in the first place. For some reason, seven hours of sleep is NOT cutting it today. I thought I'd trained myself better than that. ;____;

ajlkfdslj.

That's extremely sophisticated code for "RARR."

Feeling: sleepysleepy

YOU MUST COME VISIT US IN CALIFORNIA AND WE WILL HANG OUT IN SAN FRANCISCO AND HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT TO SHOW IT TO YOU. =D =D =D =D ♥

Seriously though, it’s one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s ridiculously hilarious. 8D

The only problem is that we may not ever let you leave. XD

I LOVE THE STORY. 8D

And the writing brain visited during class, because it was as bored of the bizarre literary tangents my teacher was going on as I was. :P

Light was amazed to discover that when Ryuk was saying “Give me apples”, what he really meant was— *shot* XD

Seven hours of sleep is not enough, ack O.o I need TEN before functioning proberly XP
Vitamin C: L - Bluetierfal on February 4th, 2009 04:36 am (UTC)
It's a veeeeery funny movie; you'd probably like it. ^^

Ah, The Princess Bride.

My friend Scott in the Coast Guard promised to recite the "Mawwiage" scene from the movie at my wedding. It's uncanny.

*squeal* THE PRINCESS BRIDE!!!! 8D That was my favourite movie when I was a kid!!! XD I love it when Wesley always replies Buttercup with "As you wish..." I think I fell in love with him at some point. I must've been, what, five? XD Hmm...Rex was into fictional characters at such a young age....

Vitamin C: Charles - Bluetierfal on February 5th, 2009 12:15 am (UTC)
It is an excellent movie! 8D

lol, I definitely had a tremendous crush on Han Solo by the tender age of six. :P

Ohmygod Han Solo! \m/

I think I see a Star Wars marathon coming up!
I MUST: Emily the Strangesabriel75 on February 4th, 2009 02:14 pm (UTC)
The Princess Bride is a cinematic masterpiece but a delightfully snarky book too :)

Who really functions on sleep? I thought coffee, caffeine and chocolate was what allowed one to actively participate in life!

Vitamin C: Improving Lifetierfal on February 5th, 2009 12:32 am (UTC)
I ought to borrow eltea's copy of the book to further enrich my adoration of it. ^^

lol, chocolate is terribly useful that way. And I should really start drinking coffee; my productivity would probably rise markedly. XD
Marmmarmaladefever on February 4th, 2009 08:14 pm (UTC)
I should really make it a point to always click on your cuts, even if I think their about fandoms I know nothing about.

BECAUSE THIS HAPPENS AND I ALMOST MISS IT! XD

P.S. Westley is much cuter than creepy Piedmon-lookalike.
Vitamin Ctierfal on February 5th, 2009 12:30 am (UTC)
Hahaha, the cross-section of people who have both read DN and watched PB seems to be criminally low! XD

P.S. I agree. Though Ryuk is definitely my hero. XD

*cries* I don't understaaand. I will have to take your word for it on this one, darling.

I'm finding the same sort of thing - I have been known to get by quite happily on 4 hours a night for more than a month, but recently I'm having to stage catch-up sessions... Tonight though, it seems that I'm simply not sleeping - I have a meeting with my supervisor at 11 and I know I won't get up if I go to bed now. I should have gone earlier, but I wanted to check my flist and all that jazz, so it just didn't happen. *sigh* I have things on in the evening too, so I can't just go to bed after either...

I hope your brain returns to you soon, preferably with exotic and classy souveniers. =]
Vitamin C: Bottletierfal on February 5th, 2009 06:06 pm (UTC)
So few people here have seen Princess Bride! This must be remedied! XD

Yeah, the catch-up days are always fun. XD But I thought I caught up last weekend... XD

*hugs you* I hate pulling all-nighters. And four hours consistently would DESTROY me. O_o

Oooooh, souvenirs would be amazing. 8D
Charlottekoneko_zero on February 6th, 2009 11:07 pm (UTC)
I'll have to hunt it down, since you're so adamant that it's awesome.

I don't mind one every so often, but more than that is just horrible... The 4 hours a night month wasn't so bad, since I got used to it quite quickly, and it's not the worst I've ever done anyway - I once pulled two all-nighters in a row, had 5 hours sleep the next night, and then pulled another all-nighter. It was HELL. But I had an art deadline and a history deadline at the same time (a-levels as well, so never a quick job), and various family dramas were going on, so I didn't have a choice.

Souveniers are always awesome. I used to love it in school (esp. primary) when friends would go away and then bring back cute little gifts for those of us left behind. It was almost as good as going away myself! =D

...is just about all that sums it up. :P
