The Plot Thickens
So a little wire connecting my screen to the rest of the laptop shorted.  It'll put me back five hundred bucks for a new screen, and four hundred for a used replacement.

Sticker shock had me at a loss, but some recuperation (and some consulation with baronanriel) has pretty much confirmed that I should at least ask if it'd be possible to connect an external monitor so that I can keep using it.  Because really, at four hundred bucks, I might as well get a new fucking computer, folks.

I'm going to send a plaintive email to my stepdad, too, because he knows things about computers and whatnot.  Yeah.

I don't know if I could even get them to do it, if I was going to blow the four hundred and run, because it sounds like they don't take checks, and my credit card limit is two hundred bucks.  Debit, maybe?  Hell if I know.

I'm going to work on that coping thing now.  I seem to have already weaseled my way into an indeterminate extension on the French essay (which I am PISSED to learn I have to rewrite anyway, because he changed the prompt AFTER I was up until three writing it Sunday), because my teacher likes me.

I think that parenthetical comment contradicted the content around it.

Anyway, I give the hell up.  I should cut my classes today and go curl up in a corner and write fanfiction, but I sincerely doubt I will.  I don't seem to know what's good for me.

I strongly suggest getting an external monitor. Granted, you won't be able to lug around the whole package, but for $100 you can get a used 17 inch 1280x1024 screen, probably more that your laptop has. And cheaper. In fact, for $350, you can get a 24 inch wide-screen 1920x1200 for full 1080p HD awesomeness.

Haha, thanks, Tony. XD That's definitely looking like the plan, though I don't know that there will be any HD awesomeness in my future. XD

I bet you can hook up an external monitor. I know doxologydude occasionally has two screens going at once. Stupifies me.

Sorry it's so expensive! Ick. As for payment, you could probably go to your bank and get cash, if nothing else. That might be a little dangerous to carry around, though.

We should all curl up into corners and write fanfiction.

That seems to be the consensus, and I've got a desktop hanging around at home, so that'll be my recourse. XD

There's no way I'm shelling out four hundred bucks because of a little bitty ribbon that decided to go fritz... The computer on the whole barely cost more than that. XD

I curled up in my lecture chairs and wrote fanfiction instead. Almost as good. 8D

ooooo....I think this is what happened to my laptop. It does hookup to the external monitor fine, and I was able to salvage my stuff. It was quite traumatic. Def. feel your pain. But, hey, at least you have a good excuse now to get a new mac book. Not that that helps the financial side any. :D Ugh. I won't even get started on finances. lol

Hope it all works out for you!

Yeah, it's looking like that should *hopefully* work out all right. XD And yeah, the money is really... where the largest part of the issue is. XD

Thanks! ^^

Everyone else pretty much summed up the sympathy bit for me. I cries for you and your laptop though. Poor laptop...

We shall live, my laptop and I. Well, I shall. Presumably my laptop shall as well. I am gaining even more of an appreciation for the damn ornery -- er, dear, sweet -- thing. You know what they say about not knowing what you've got. :P

*pets Jenny*

There's something uncannily wonderful about sleeping with a little fluffy warm live thing next to you, isn't there? ^^

Hey, constructive uses of textbooks are constructive uses of textbooks! XD

And yeah, it always seems way too quiet if ever I sleep alone, having been raised on shared rooms. XD
